Simple Ways For Learning To Play Cat’s Cradle

Posted on Sunday 2 October 2011

Playing cat’s cradle brings us back to a time gone by. There were no cell phones, video games, and MTV was not on the air yet. In the good ole days of the 1970′s and 1960′s children had to use their imaginations and engage in play that did not require electrical outlets and joysticks.

Cat’s Cradle was one of the games that were played back in the good old days. It simply required a string and a little bit of time on the part of the participants. The first thing that will be needed is two people and a string. The loop of string should be long enough in order to go all the way around the person’s hands and lop around the middle of each hand once.

The individual then takes the middle finger on each hand and threads it through the loops. Pulling it taut, the individual will then have a cat’s cradle formed with the string. The second person pinches the X that is formed on either side of the string cradle and loops it out and up through the string on the first person’s hand. Each time the string goes from one person to the next, there will be an X formation. Simply pinch the X formation with two fingers from each hand and move through the different progressions of the cat’s cradle.
